I was surprised and saddened to see Janet's obituary in the October 18 newspaper, not realizing that Janet and Fred had returned to Indiana. Back in the summer of 1965 I accompanied Janet's sister Mary Ann on several visits to Janet and Fred's home in Maryland. I remember many things about those visits--the welcoming atmosphere, the delightful company, and the custom of their two little boys to solemnly shake hands with each adult in the room before going off to bed. Janet's parents were also dear and close friends of mine, long gone but always in happy memory. Fred, I hope you and your family will take comfort in knowing how greatly you and Janet impressed the young college kid I was in that summer over 50 years ago, leaving me with memories that still bring joy to recall. I will keep you all in thought and prayer in the difficult days to come.
