William A. "Bill" West, Sr.

Hamilton:  William A. “Bill” West, Sr., 84, died Sunday October 18, 2015 at home. 

Mr. West was born on October 5, 1931 in Muncie, Indiana to the late William E. and Florence May (Baumgartner) West.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the 82nd Airborne during the Korean War.  He was a retired truck driver working formerly for Richardsons Homes and Schnieder Transport.  Bill farmed and drove race cars.  He raced at Avilla, Steuben County Raceway, Bryan Raceway and Baerfield Raceway in Fort Wayne.  He was inducted into the Angola Motor Speedway Hall of Fame in 2013.

Surviving are two sons; William A. “Buck” West, JR. of Fort Wayne, Melmoth “Mel” (Cheryl) West of Sand Springs, OK.

Two daughters;  F. Georganna Balogh of Fort Wayne and Jennifer (Mike) Sevits of Angola.

One sister; Leann West Lumberson of Florida.  12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Edgar Alfred West, two brothers; Louis West and Baby Boy West, and a sister Lucy “Peach” Eby.

Services will be held on Tuesday October 27, 2015 at 2 pm at the H.E. Johnson and Sons Funeral Home, 108 S. West Street, Angola, Indiana, with calling 1 hour prior to service time, Pastor Eugene Thimlar will be officiating.

Burial in Bethel Cemetery East of Hamilton on CR 900.  Memorials are to the Quiet Knight Organization.
