Eleanor Leone (Gipe) Herman

Angola:  Eleanor Leone Herman, 95, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 27, 2019 at Northern Lakes Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Angola.

She was born August 4, 1923 in Coesse, IN to the late Henry Jake and Alma E. (Spaw) Gipe. She was a graduate of Bedford High School.  She met her future husband William H. Herman while both were working at General Electric, Ft. Wayne.

They were united in marriage on February 13, 1943.  William preceded her in death on March 20, 2011.  Eleanor was the bookeeper for her husband’s business at the Waynedale Marathon and later became receptionist at Panache Salon in Angola. Eleanor was a member of the Angola United Methodist Church.

Her greatest joy in life was spending time with all her family.

Surviving are three daughters; Linda Scheumann of Angola, Elizabeth Hull of Louisville, KY, and Margaret (Irvin) Bormann, of Ft. Wayne. Also surviving are six grandchildren; Liz (Joe) Thomas, Nathan (Penny) Scheumann, Sarah (Adam) Engle, Cliff (Laura) Hull, Alex Hull, Dan (Paige) Bormann, eight great-grandchildren, one brother; Daniel (Marilyn) Gipe, one sister; Joan Sherfick and one sister-in-law; Betty Rosselot.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William, three sisters and spouses; Juanita (Burgess) Miller, Audra (Neil) Stevenson, Ada (Leon) Harbstreit, one son-in-law; Norbert Scheumann and two brother-in-laws; Charles Sherfick and Wayne Rosselot.

Funeral Services for Eleanor L. Herman will be held at 1pm. Friday, February 1, 2019 at the Angola United Methodist Church, 220 W. Maumee, Angola. Pastor Tim Terrell will be officiating. Visitation will be 2 hours prior starting at 11am at the church. Keeping with Eleanor’s wishes cremation will follow and be buried next to her beloved husband at a later date in Greenlawn Cemetery, Ft. Wayne. Family requests memorials be given in memory of Eleanor L. Herman to Angola United Methodist Church.
