Eugene "Gene" L. Reese

Angola:  Eugene “Gene” L. Reese, 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, November 12, 2018 at Northern Lakes Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Angola.  Gene was born February 24, 1930 in Elkhart, IN. to the late Boyd and Whaneta (Stewart) Reese.  Gene was a 1948 graduate of Elkhart Central High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1950-1954 during the Korean War.  He married Marjorie (Hesterman) Reese on May 31, 1959 at Zion Lutheran Church, Ridgeville Corners, OH and she survives.  Gene graduated from the Indiana State Police Academy at Indiana University in 1955, and retired from the Indiana State Police in 1975 after serving 20 years.  Upon retirement he was then self-employed.  He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Angola, the Angola Lions Club, Fraternal Order of Police Pokagon Lodge #163 and  Angola American Legion Post #31.  He enjoyed fishing and bowling.

Surviving is his wife Marjorie, 3 children; Lynn (Marty) Dygert of Angola, Julie (Craig) Rupp of Kalamazoo, MI and Stuart Reese and friend Patti Lyons of Angola.  Also surviving are 7 grandchildren; Kyle Dygert, Zach Dygert, Amy Dygert, Nick Webster, Brady Webster, Janelle Rupp, Alex Reese and 10 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers;  Merle and Arthur Reese and 4 sisters; Elizabeth Swain, Bonnie Collins, Louise Doncaster and Lucille Monk.

Memorial Services for Eugene “Gene” Reese will be held Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 12:00 noon at Calvary Lutheran Church, 1300 N. Williams St., Angola. Rev. Daryl J. Emowrey will officiate. Burial will follow in Circle Hill Cemetery, Angola. Visitation will be 2 hours prior starting at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Family requests memorials be given in memory of Eugene”Gene” Reese to Calvary Lutheran Church, 1300 N. Williams St., Angola and/or Alzheimers Assoc. 50 E. 91st St. Suite 100, Indianapolis,IN. 46209-4830.
