Janet Lee (McDanel) Titsworth

Janet Lee (McDanel) Titsworth, 81, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family, friends and caregivers on October 15, 2017. She was born in Garrett, Indiana on November 1, 1935 to the late Orville and Laurine (Drerup) McDanel.

Janet had a long career in nursing.  She started out working in the local hospital when she was in high school.  She earned her RN degree from St. Joseph’s College and St Elizabeth’s School of Nursing in her home state of Indiana. After marrying Frederick L Titsworth, Jr. of Cleveland, OH in 1956 she lived in Maryland, Pennsylvania and in Weston, MA where they lived for over 30 years.  While in Weston she was Director of Nurses at Campion Center’s retirement home for Jesuit priests.  She also worked for many years at Boston College caring for the Jesuit community. In her retirement, she moved back to Indiana to enjoy being at the lake. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, particularly her grandchildren.  She was very active and enjoyed swimming, water aerobics, paddle boating, volunteer work, playing cards, sewing, arts and crafts, gardening and shopping.

 She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Frederick L Titsworth, Jr., and four children: Diana L Langer of Northborough, MA, Alexander D. Titsworth of Austin, TX, Elizabeth A Moore of Gloucester, MA, and Mary C Visnauskis of Easton, MA as well as 8 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson.  She was preceded in death by one son, Frederick L. Titsworth, III.

A funeral Mass will be said at St. Anthony’s church in Angola, IN on Friday October 20, 2017, at 11 AM with Father Bob Showers officiating. Internment will follow at the Lake Gage cemetery.  

Visitation will be held at H.E. Johnson & Sons Funeral Home, 108 S. West St., Angola on Thursday October 19, 2017 from 4pm to 7pm.  A prayer service will be at 6:30pm on Thursday.    

 In lieu of flowers, donations in Janet’s name may be made to the Cancer Treatment Centers of America or the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
