Joan Elizabeth (Carr) Staup

Angola:  Joan Elizabeth Staup, 88, passed away Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Northern Lakes Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Angola.  She was born on  July 25, 1930 in Metamora, OH to the late Glenn and Nellie (Farison) Carr.  Joan married Robert W. Staup on July 31, 1948 in Metamora, OH.  Robert preceded her in death on July 3, 2015.  Joan was very proud to be a minister’s wife,  she taught many Sunday school classes, led the women’s ministries, sang in choirs, sang special numbers and helped people whenever needed, together they would perform many weddings in their home, at the married couple’s home, churches and also on boats on one of the many lakes in Steuben County, with numerous  times Joan being the witness to sign the marriage certificate.

 She worked at the Steuben County Home for several years.She enjoyed crocheting, planting flowers, cooking and baking, especially baking cinnamon rolls that all of the family said were the best that they ever had. She loved spending time with her family, grandkids, and great-grandkids and always had food and no bake cookies ready for them when they came to visit.  Joan was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Brethren Church, and had a beautiful alto voice.

She is survived by two daughters; Lorraine “Lori” Potter of LaPorte, IN and Lynne M. (Roger) Buckmaster of Ashley, two sons; Bradley W. (Susan) Staup of Gautier, MS. and  Brian R. (Jodi) Staup of Brownsburg, IN.  Surviving are twelve grandchildren; Allen Thompson, Heather Mikesell, Holly Adams, Ariane Durham, Kim Winstead, Heidi Overmyer, Mark Staup, Joel Potter, Kris Staup, Kelly Vaughn, Tyler Staup and Jacob Staup.  Also 20 great-grandchildren and two sisters; Joyce Pridgeon of  Mt. Pleasant, MI and Jean Old of Archibold, OH.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert, three brothers; Raymond, Lyle, and Doc Carr.  Three sisters; Helen Tipton, Eileen Colasito and Mary Lee Waggoner.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 25, 2018 at Mt. Pleasant UB Church, 2140 S. 850 E. Angola, IN with grandson Pastor Joel D. Potter officiating and grandson Pastor Kris B. Staup will perform the graveside service. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery next to church.  Visitation will be 2 hours prior starting at 11:00a.m. at the church.
