Angola: Mary Lou Holcomb, 85, passed away on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at Lakeland Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation in Angola. She was born May 29, 1933 in Ionia County, MI to the late Lyle L. and Rosalee Alice (Mason) Jones. Mary Lou married Walter W. Holcomb on January 31, 1953 at the Orleans Methodist Church in Orleans, MI. and he preceded her in death in 2005. After graduation, Mary Lou worked at a dress shop and did secretarial work. In Angola, she worked 2 years at the Angola Book Store, McBride Cleaners, volunteered for Meals on Wheels and did tailoring of band uniforms. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Angola and Angola Moose Lodge. She was an over 55 year active member of Calvary Lutheran Church. Her interest included reading, gardening and was passionate about decorating.
She is survived by one son; Kirk L. Holcomb of Orlando, FL., two daughter-in-laws; Pam Holcomb of Angola and Kathy Janus of South Lyon, MI., two grandchildren; Austin (Kari) Holcomb of Williamston, MI and Samantha (Matt) Newhard of Angola. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren; Vincent Newhard, Nate Holcomb, Macy Newhard and Tara Holcomb and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons; Michael D. and Neil A. Holcomb and one sister; Madeline Kauffman.
Memorial Services for Mary Lou Holcomb will be held Saturday, October 27, 2018 at 12:00 noon at Calvary Lutheran Church, 1300 N. Williams St., Angola. Rev. Daryl J. Emowrey of Calvary Lutheran Church will officiate. Visitation will be 2 hours prior starting at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Memorials may be given in memory of Mary Lou Holcomb to Calvary Lutheran Church, Angola, and Steuben County Cancer Society.
