Hamilton: Thomas E. Butler, 71, passed away Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor, MI. Mr. Butler was born March 20, 1947 in Auburn to the late Robert J. and DeVonna J. (Kalb) Butler. He graduated from Auburn High School, Class of 1966 where he was involved in cross country and track. Tom proudly served in the United States Marine Corp. from 1966 – 1978 and served three tours in Viet Nam. He was a heavy duty maintenance mechanic and crew chief on a Sikorski CH-53 helicopter, and a member of the Sea Stallions. After serving his country he worked for Michelin Uniroyal Goodrich in Woodburn. After retirement he owned TJB Woodworking & Construction, in Hamilton. He married Janet L. (Wall) Butler on August 20, 1983 in the back yard of his in-laws home in Metz, IN. and they recently celebrated 35 years of marriage. He was a member of the Sea Stallions and Hamilton American Legion Post #467, where he was an over 50 year member. His passion was doing woodworking and traveling.
Surviving is his loving wife, Janet L. Butler of Angola, one daughter; Katie (Leon) Sharman of Western Australia, and their children; Logan, Lily, Noah, and Cody Sharman, one son; Zachray Butler of Auburn. Also surviving is one brother; Rick Butler of St. Charles, MO, one sister-in-law Judith Hirsch of Ft. Wayne, one brother-in-law Gerald Craig (Denise) Wall of Palm Coast, Fla., one uncle Don (Retha) Butler of Auburn and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Military graveside service with honors for Thomas E. Butler will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 10, 2018 at the Hamilton Cemetery, Hamilton, IN., conducted by the United States Marines and the Hamilton American Legion. Visitation will be held from 2-4p.m. Sunday, September 9, 2018 at the H.E. Johnson & Sons Funeral Home, Angola, IN.
