Dollie Vose Obituary

Avilla:  Dollie Mae Vose, 74, formerly of Hamilton and Butler died Thursday, August 2, 2018 at Presence Sacred Heart Home in Avilla.

She was born May 10, 1944 in Memphis, TN. to the late Clifford Jerome Garrant-Hankey and Ollie May (Wheeler) Hankey.  She was a 1962 graduate from Butler High School. Dollie married Lewis “Junior” Vose,  III in May of 1962.  They resided in Butler (their hometown) for a short time before moving to the Vose family farm south of Hamilton, where they lived until Junior’s death in 1973.  Dollie never remarried, but did leave the farm for life in the town of Hamilton.  Dollie lived most of her life in northeast Indiana.  Many of those years spent raising her four children, children who loved adventure, and didn’t mind getting in trouble enough to stop them.  She worked at several places in her life, including multiple nursing homes, Fremont Community Schools, and for the Lautzenhiser family in Hamilton.  When grandchildren came along, “Pink Grandma” loved to baby sit them (“pink because of her rosy cheeks.  Dollie was a lifelong avid reader, sometimes reading multiple novels in a single week. She also loved crocheting blankets for her family.

Surviving are two daughters; Debbie (Jeff) Boone of Churubusco and Laura Vose of Auburn, and two sons; Michael (Mikal) Vose of Auburn, and Lewis (Perri) Vose of Albion.  Also surviving are nine grandchildren; Cassandra Boone, Joshua Boone, Tiffany Boone, Kendra Miller, Andrew Vose, Ashley Fry, Kaitlyn Thurber, Daniel Vose, and Alisha Vose, and 12 great-grandchildren.  3 sisters; Virginia in Ft. Wayne, Janice in California and Bonnie in Oregon.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lewis, 2 daughters; Theresa Vose and Lisa Vose, and a sister Gloria.

There will not be a formal funeral service.  The family will hold a celebration of life event  on Saturday, September 1, 2018 from 12-4 p.m. at Waterloo’s Francis Thomas Park.
