Doris Louise (Roddy) Aurelio

Doris Louise (Roddy) Aurelio of Angola, Indiana, died peacefully at 96 years of age at Lakeland Rehab & Healthcare Center in Angola, Indiana on October 1, 2023. Born in Columbus, Ohio to Edna Halsey Roddy and Lafayette Roddy on February 6, 1927, Doris was the devoted wife of the late Gerald "Jerry" Aurelio. Loving mother of Shelley McKnight, Robyn McKnight, Cindy McKnight, and Kathleen McKnight. Fond sister-in-law to Dr. James (Arlene) Aurelio, and Anne (Thomas) Bledsoe. Cherished grandmother to Amanda Klingerman, Megan Bolyard (Zach), Rene Jablonski (Jarrod), and Bobby Gibbons (Liz), and Georgia Gibbons. Adoring great grandmother to Olivia Shelton (Dustin) Dalton Klingerman, Paige Bolyard, and Charles Gibbons and great-great grandchildren, Rowan Shelton & Korbyn Shelton. Dearly loved aunt and great aunt to many. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister-in-law, Carole (Dr. Gerald) Cara and Lois (Mathias M. Mattern) Mattern.

Doris married the love of her life, Gerald "Jerry" on June 2, 1977. Their favorite pastime was being together, entertaining loved ones, and sharing peaceful days on the lake. They enjoyed summers with their family, especially time with their grandchildren boating, swimming, playing cards, fishing, and treating them to pizza and ice cream. Thoughtful and creative, Doris often spent evenings hand stitching ornaments and Christmas stockings for new family members. She raised her children in Homewood, Illinois and worked at a law firm in Chicago. Doris and Jerry also shared ownership in an Aurelio's Pizza franchise in Oak Brook Terrace, Illinois. Her zest for life and sense of adventure was a constant companion even in later years when she lived at Cameron Woods, where she fully engaged in daily activities including weekly Bible study with fellow residents and socializing with friends and family who came to visit. A special thank you to Annie and Thomas Bledsoe who generously assisted Doris in her golden years, the loving caregivers at Cameron Woods who treated Doris like family and to the expert team at Lakeland Rehab who cared for her in her final days. Doris maintained a sense of peace and contentment regardless of circumstance. Always offering a kind word, Doris will be remembered for her soft-spoken nature, gentle spirit, and charitable heart. Her quiet faith and acceptance of Jesus as her Savior encouraged her. May she rest in eternal peace and live on in our hearts.

Visitation will be held at Cameron Woods Senior Living, 701 West Harcourt Road, Angola, Indiana on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 10am followed by a memorial service at 11am. Officiating pastors Sam and Serena Hoffman.
