Penny Sue McKinley, 60, passed away at her Angola home Friday, April 29, 2022. She was surrounded by family and friends.
Penny was born July 2, 1961 in Angola Indiana. She is the daughter of the late William and Elenore McKinley.
Penny came from a large family. In heaven she will join her sisters Nyla and Sharon and brothers Tom and Rick. Surviving sisters are Shirley, Debra, Louise, and Sandy, and her brother Jerry.
She met the late Frank Murr of Angola in 1978 and the two were blessed with 2 children, Crystal (McKinley) Meeks and Frankie Murr Jr, along with 3 grandchildren, Emma Murr, Kendall Henderson, and Jase Murr. She loved her children and grandchildren so much.
Penny met Mike Walter, her true love in 1985 and they were together until his fatal accident in March of 2002.
Penny was a people person, she loved to meet and talk to just about anyone. Did not matter what the subject was, Penny had an opinion on it. Penny was Penny, she never tried to impress or change for anyone. That is what made her so special.
Being the people person that she was made her a great bartender, and waitress. She loved her bartending job of 8 years at the Country Meadows Golf Club and was very good at it. She met a lot of different people with alot of different personalities, which made her job enjoyable.
Penny loved her Rock and Roll music. Aerosmith was her all time favorite band. She carried the biggest crush on Steven Tyler through the decades of the 70s to the 2020s. The crush was so big the family had to photoshop a picture of them together for a birthday gift one year, the excitement on her face was priceless. The framed 16x24 photo still hangs above her bed.
Penny loved to go boating with her best friend "Bud", it was her favorite pastime with Mike and the kids.
She also loved collecting smiley face memorabilia, she had quite the collection, from mugs, to signs, rugs, and even bobble heads. Now anytime we see a smiley face we will always smile and think of her.
If you knew Penny then you know that her biggest flaw was that she was always late. Did not matter what the occasion was, she was always late. For instance she walked down the aisle to get to her seat at her sister's wedding in between the ring bearer and the flower girl, which were Crystal and Frankie her own kids.
That is nothing, Penny was actually late for her own wedding. Penny's mom and sister Sandy stood and waited at the Courthouse in the rain for 30 minutes until Penny and Frank showed up. Penny married Frank Keinz on November 16, 2012. Though divorced, they stayed friends.
While some people struggle with cancer, you accepted your fate with a bravery like we have never seen before, and we are all so proud of you.
Penny, there are no goodbyes for us. Wherever you are, you will always be in our hearts. We love you everyday and now we will miss you everyday.
A Celebration of Penny's Life will be announced at a later time.
