Rita H. Gonya

Rita H. Gonya, 83, of Angola, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2022.

She was born on June 28, 1938 in Paulding County, OH to the late Leo and Velma “Volera” (Shreve) Lucas. She graduated from Antwerp High School in 1956. Rita was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church and the Moose Lodge in Angola. She worked in retail for JC Penney and most recent was a seamstress for Deb’s Bridal. Rita enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking, baking and everyone loved her chocolate chip cookies.

Rita married the late John Gonya Sr. in Antwerp, OH on October 18, 1958. He preceded her in death in 1990.

Rita is survived by her children, John (Kelly) Gonya of Angola, Andy (Janice) Gonya of Garrett, Elizabeth Cline of Hicksville, OH and Diane (Paul) Dolinski of Antwerp, OH; daughter-in-law, Kathy Gonya of Fort Wayne; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her sons, Daniel Gonya and Anthony Gonya; three brothers and a sister.

Funeral service will be on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at 11:00 am at H.E. Johnson & Sons Funeral Home, Angola with visitation beginning at 9:00 am until the time of service. Fr. Robert G. Showers will officiate. Burial will follow the service at Circle Hill Cemetery.
