Virginia A. (Auman) Hill

Hamilton:  Virginia A. Hill,  97, passed away peacefully at home on Friday January 4, 2019 surrounded by her beloved family. She was born July 29, 1921 in Paulding County, OH, Blue Creek Twp. to the late Harold R. and Dorothy (Mosier) Auman.  She graduated from Haviland & Scott School, Haviland, OH. in 1939. She met her future husband, Robert Hill in Lima, OH. while they were both employed at General Electric. They were united in marriage on June 17, 1944 in Lima, OH. He preceded her in death on May 9, 1989. They moved to the family farm in Hamilton in 1952 and resided there their entire life. She was a housewife and worked closely with her husband on the daily functions of the family farm. She retired from the Steuben County Extension Office in the early 1980’s after serving as Extension Educator.

Virginia was a member of Hamilton United Methodist Church. She had been a member of and President of Hamilton Extension Homemakers, Steuben Co. Women’s Club, and very active with Steuben Co. 4-H. She was an avid sports fan of the Chicago Cubs and Indiana Pacers. She also enjoyed many high school sporting events at Hamilton High School.

She is survived by two sons; Robert D. (Diane) Hill, of Hamilton and Donald W. (Jody) Hill of Hamilton, one daughter; Susan E. (Mark) Ottesen of Shreveport, LA., one brother; Dwight Auman of Carroll, OH., one son-in-law; Larry Fiedler of Angola, 12 grandchildren and God continues to bless her with many great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her loving companion “Charlie the Dachshund”. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband (Robert Hill), one daughter; Flossie Fiedler, one brother; Gaylord Auman, one sister; Thelma Coleman and one great-grandchild; Callie Esslinger.

Funeral Services for Virginia A. Hill will be held at 11:00a.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at the Hamilton United Methodist Church with visitation 1 hour prior to services starting at 10:00a.m. Services will be conducted by Pastors David Leitzel of Hamilton Wesleyan and Larry Dimmick of Hamilton United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Hamilton Cemetery.  Visitation will be 6-8p.m. Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at the church.  The family requests memorials be given in memory of Virginia A. Hill to Hamilton Fire Dept. and /or Hamilton American Legion Post #467.
