Delores May (Dee) (Barrand) Runyan

Angola:  Delores May “Dee” (Barrand) Runyan, 87, went to her heavenly home June 24, 2015 at Visiting Nurse and Hospice House in Fort Wayne.  Born November 7, 1927 in Fort Wayne to the late Robert E. and Clara M. (Vodde) Barrand.  She was a 1946 graduate of North Side High School.

Delores married her childhood sweetheart Gerald O. Runyan (they were 8 and 9 years old when they met at Klug Park in Fort Wayne).  They were married on August 23, 1947 in Gerald’s parent’s front parlor in Rome City.

She was a 50 plus years member and Past Worthy Matron of O.E.S. Churubusco Eastern Stars Chapter # 136.

The family moved to Southgate, Michigan in June of 1966.  Delores worked and retired from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan after 18 ½ years of service.

Delores loved her family dearly and enjoyed her friends.  She liked to embroidery, crochet, work jigsaw puzzles, word search puzzles, collect stamps, and most of all she enjoyed reading.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law; Jerry and Joan (Cochrane) Runyan of New Haven, Indiana, grandchildren Michelle (Joe) Verduce of Gaylord, Michigan, Paul Thompson of Alabama, Jason (Summer) Runyan of Elkhart, Matthew (Jennifer) Runyan of Fort Wayne,  son-in-law David Tibbs of Deford, Michigan, a sister June Litzenberg of Fort Wayne, six great- grandsons.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gerald of 67 years in 2014.  Also preceding her in death were daughters; Linda S. Runyan age 20 (1976), Myra K. Tibbs age 55 in (2006), and a brother and sister-in-law Jack L. and Mary Jane Barrand, and a sister Helen M. Hursch.

Visitation will be held at H.E. Johnson & Sons Funeral Home, 108 S. West Street Angola, Indiana.  Viewing Sunday June 28, 2015 from 3-7 PM followed by an Eastern Stars Service.

Funeral will be Monday June 29, 2015 at 10:00 AM at Greenlawn Memorial Cemetery in Fort Wayne.  IN lieu of flowers memorials may be given to:  League of the Blind and Disabled, 4821 S. Anthony, Fort Wayne, IN 46816.
